Symphonic music has long moved beyond the walls of grand concert halls to find its place, ever more closely, within contemporary life. It is not reserved only for those who are already familiar with this type of music; it has become a bridge between artists and audiences, between people of different generations and different experiences.
Thursday evening, September 10th, marked the second reunion in 3 years between the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and students of The Olympia Schools. This time, the stage was no longer only a place where the symphony orchestra brought music to the students, but became a space where two generations met, engaged in dialogue, and shone together: the SSO’s experienced musicians and Olympia’s talented young performers.
School outreach is one of our ongoing core activities, and it is how the SSO brings music beyond the concert hall, closer to the audiences of tomorrow, nurturing a love of music from an early age. The orchestra carries a strong belief that music holds real power to support mental wellbeing, build meaningful connections, and foster deep empathy within society.
The “I See The Light” concert, where we recently shared the stage with the students, stands as a vivid testament to that philosophy. Under the direction of Music Director – Conductor Olivier Ochanine, 45 professional musicians together with students from The Olympia Schools brought the audience into the many facets of light within music (in alignment with the concert’s name).
Although the performance has come to an end, the symphony orchestra believes that every experience the students gained will become memories they can carry further on, and will help light up and nurture their love of music. SSO looks forward to continuing its journey of building a richer cultural ecosystem, one where everyone can find connection and inspiration of their own.
